Osram has struck a partnership with BMW Motorsport to supply its team of racers with performance and focus-enhancing lighting solutions, including specially-designed LED goggles and luminaires, during the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring in Germany which was held last WE.
Several recent studies on human-centric lighting hint at the effectiveness to use specially engineered light patterns and their impact on the circadian cycle to boost the level of alertness or on the contrary to help with the sleep patterns of exposed subjects. In particular, lights with a preponderant blue component are recognized to shift circadian melatonin rhythms, increasing alertness levels as in a wake-up phase.
As the official partner of BMW Motorsport, Osram supplied activating light for drivers and engineers both before and during the race to enhance their alertness and boost their concentration. The German LED manufacturer is already supplying top athletes from the German Ski Association (DSV) with biologically effective lighting solutions. Now Osram also supplies the BMW Team Schnitzer with lighting solutions for the long-established Nürburgring 24 Hours Race. The custom-tailored solutions are designed to mobilize the energy of drivers and engineers exactly when needed during the arduous 24-hour race and help them sharpen their focus. The light comes in the form of LED light glasses and special luminaires.
